Travel With Tuttilove | Beautiful Places, Unforgettable Experiences
There are some places that look beautiful in pictures, but nothing compares to experiencing them in person. Niagara Falls is one of those places.
The sound of the rushing water, the mist rising into the air, the beautiful rainbows, and the incredible scenery make it a destination worth visiting at least once.
My husband and I have experienced Niagara Falls from both the New York and Canadian sides, and I can tell you that both offer something special.
If you're planning a visit, here are a few things I recommend to make your experience even more memorable.
Niagara Falls: New York or Canada?
One of the most common questions when planning a trip to Niagara Falls is which side is better.
The wonderful thing is that you have two beautiful options!
The New York Side
The American side allows you to experience the natural beauty of the falls up close. Niagara Falls State Park offers walking paths, observation areas, and incredible opportunities to feel the power of the water.
Many visitors choose to stay in New York, and it's a wonderful way to experience the falls.
The Canadian Side
Personally, I love the Canadian side for its breathtaking panoramic views. From here, you can admire the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls from beautiful viewpoints.
It's also an incredible place for photography.
We have enjoyed visiting from both sides, and my recommendation is simple: if you have the opportunity, experience both!
Just remember that crossing between the United States and Canada requires appropriate travel documents.
Discover the History Behind Niagara Falls
Whenever I travel, I enjoy learning about the history of the places I visit.
Niagara Falls is more than a beautiful natural wonder. The surrounding region has a fascinating history.
On the Canadian side, consider visiting the Niagara Falls History Museum, where you can learn more about the community and its past.
On the New York side, the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center shares the important history of freedom seekers who crossed into Canada.
Taking a little time to explore the area's history adds something meaningful to your visit.
Experience the Falls From the Water
If there's one activity I recommend considering, it's taking a boat ride toward the falls.
Experiences such as Maid of the Mist on the American side and Niagara City Cruises on the Canadian side allow you to get remarkably close to the rushing water.
It's exciting, unforgettable, and a completely different perspective from standing at an observation point.
But ladies, here's my advice: be prepared to get wet!
The boat operators provide protective ponchos, but the mist can be intense.
A few things I recommend:
-
Wear comfortable shoes with good traction.
-
Choose comfortable clothing that can handle a little water.
-
Bring a waterproof pouch for your phone.
-
Protect your camera, wallet, and personal belongings.
-
Skip the oversized handbag. A small crossbody bag is much more practical.
You want to enjoy the experience without worrying about your belongings.
And believe me, you'll want your phone protected because the views are incredible!
Take Your Time and Enjoy the Views
One of my favorite things about Niagara Falls is how many beautiful places there are to take pictures.
The waterfalls, the surrounding greenery, the bridges, and even the mist create wonderful backgrounds.
If you're lucky, you might even capture a beautiful rainbow!
My advice is not to rush. Walk around, explore the different viewpoints, and enjoy the scenery.
And if you're staying overnight, make sure you see Niagara Falls illuminated at night.
The colorful lights reflecting on the water create a completely different atmosphere. It's romantic, beautiful, and worth staying a little longer to experience.
