🍷 Agricola Poggio ai Laghi: A Tuscan Winery Experience We Won’t Forget

Monteriggioni, Tuscany, Italy
There are some places you visit while traveling that are beautiful, and then there are places that become part of the memory of the trip. Agricola Poggio ai Laghi in Monteriggioni, Tuscany, was one of those places for us.
During our trip through Italy, our group took a tour that brought us to Poggio ai Laghi, and I honestly didn't know quite what to expect. What I discovered was much more than simply a wine stop. It was an experience filled with beautiful surroundings, wonderful hospitality, great food, wine, and—most importantly for me—people who genuinely made us feel welcome.
🇮🇹 Arriving in Monteriggioni
Poggio ai Laghi is located in the Tuscan countryside near the medieval town of Monteriggioni. The winery describes its location as being between Monteriggioni and San Gimignano, surrounded by the landscape of Chianti and Tuscany. poggioailaghi.com
For us, arriving as part of a group tour made the experience especially enjoyable. We were able to simply settle in and take in the surroundings rather than worrying about transportation or logistics.
And the surroundings are beautiful.
The combination of the Tuscan landscape, vineyards, historic atmosphere, rustic wine barrels, and welcoming spaces immediately gives you that feeling that you are experiencing something distinctly Italian.
🍷 The Staff Was the Highlight for Me

If I had to choose one thing that stood out the most, it would be the staff.
They were wonderful.
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was warm, friendly, and personal. They weren't simply going through the motions of conducting a wine tasting. They interacted with our group, explained what we were experiencing, answered questions, and made the entire visit feel relaxed and enjoyable.
That made a huge difference.
Sometimes a beautiful location can feel very commercial when you're visiting as part of a tour. That wasn't how this experience felt to me. The people were a huge part of what made the stop memorable.
And that impression isn't just something the winery emphasizes in its own materials—the winery currently offers guided tasting experiences led by wine experts, with options ranging from classic tastings to larger Chianti tastings and food-paired experiences. poggioailaghi.com
🍇 The Tour & Wine Experience
The tour itself was another highlight.
We learned about the wines and the experience of enjoying them in the Tuscan setting, while being able to see the beautiful winery environment around us.
Poggio ai Laghi currently offers several tasting experiences, including tastings featuring wines, olive oils and balsamic vinegars, as well as options paired with local cheeses and meals. poggioailaghi.com
One of the things I appreciated was that the experience wasn't rushed. There was time to look around, take in the surroundings, enjoy the food and wine, and simply enjoy being there.
My tip: Don't rush this stop.
If you're visiting as part of a larger tour, take advantage of whatever time you have at the winery. Look around. Take pictures. Enjoy the setting. Listen to the explanations. And give yourself time to appreciate the experience rather than thinking only about the next stop.
🌿 The Grounds & Atmosphere

The atmosphere is beautiful.
This is one of those places where you want to put your camera down for a minute and actually look around.
The rustic elements of the winery combined with the Tuscan countryside create exactly the kind of atmosphere you imagine when you picture a wine experience in Italy.
The winery itself describes its spaces as being immersed in the Tuscan countryside and offers multiple areas for tastings, meals, events and other experiences. poggioailaghi.com
For me, that's part of what makes this experience different from simply going somewhere to taste wine.
You're experiencing Tuscany while you're tasting Tuscany.
🥖 Food, Wine & the Whole Experience

Another thing I loved was that the experience wasn't just about drinking wine.
There was food, conversation, beautiful presentation and the opportunity to learn about what we were tasting.
Poggio ai Laghi's published experience materials describe tastings that can include Tuscan foods such as bruschetta, salami, finocchiona, pecorino, pasta, roasted meat and cantuccini, depending on the experience booked. Their tasting programs can also include olive oils and balsamic vinegars. poggioailaghi.com
That combination makes the experience feel much more like a Tuscan culinary experience than simply a traditional wine tasting.
📦 And Here's Something I REALLY Loved: Shipping the Wine Home

Now, this was a big deal for us.
When you're traveling internationally, the last thing you want is to purchase a bottle of wine and then have to figure out how you're going to carry it through the rest of your trip.
Fortunately, we didn't have to.
We purchased wine and had it shipped home.
And ours arrived in about two weeks.
That was such a pleasant surprise because we didn't have to carry the bottle around with us for the rest of our travels.
For U.S. customers, Poggio ai Laghi's current FAQ says the winery covers standard shipping, insurance and duties, with standard delivery currently listed at approximately 25–30 days; expedited shipping is also available for an additional fee. poggioailaghi.com
Our personal experience was considerably faster—we received ours in approximately two weeks.
One important note: the winery's current FAQ says the minimum shipment to the U.S. is six bottles, with shipments available in specified quantities. poggioailaghi.com
So if you're considering ordering, check the winery's current shipping terms before purchasing because shipping policies can change.
❤️ What Made It Memorable
For me, it wasn't one single bottle of wine or one particular part of the tour.
It was the combination.
The beautiful grounds.
The Tuscan countryside.
The wine.
The food.
The tour.
The atmosphere.
And especially the people.
The staff made us feel welcome, and that is something I always remember when I travel.
I've been to beautiful places where the scenery is incredible but the experience feels forgettable. Poggio ai Laghi wasn't like that for me.
It felt warm.
It felt personal.
And it felt like one of those stops where you're happy you had the opportunity to experience it.
✈️ Tutti's Travel Tip
If you're planning a trip through Tuscany and Poggio ai Laghi is included in your tour, don't treat it as just another quick stop on the itinerary.
Give yourself time to enjoy it.
Take pictures.
Walk around.
Listen to the wine experts.
Enjoy the food.
Ask questions.
And if you find a wine you love, ask about having it shipped home rather than trying to figure out how to pack it into your luggage.
That's exactly what we did—and having that bottle arrive at home later gave us another little reminder of our trip to Italy.
🍷 Would I Go Back?
What I can say is that Poggio ai Laghi became one of the memorable experiences from our Italy trip.
For me, the hospitality was the biggest reason.
The staff was wonderful, the tour was enjoyable, the surroundings were beautiful, and the entire experience gave us a chance to slow down and enjoy a little piece of Tuscany.
And isn't that what travel is supposed to be about?
Not just checking another destination off your list—but finding those special moments that you still talk about after you've returned home.
Poggio ai Laghi was one of those moments for us. 🇮🇹🍷
